Connecting Global Minds to Shape the Future of Clinical Trials

As OpenClinica’s Co-Founder and COO, I had the pleasure of serving as the host for OC24, our annual global conference for users and customers. I’ll confess I was more than a bit reluctant to host a virtual event.

After all, OC23, our first face-to-face gathering since the pandemic, continued the long heritage of in-person OpenClinica user conferences. To say OC23 was an unqualified success doesn’t begin to capture the energy, enthusiasm and insight that was shared during four days in London.

OC24-New Roads to Better Data, Faster

Nevertheless, OC24 was uniquely global.

For two days, OpenClinica’s global community came together to shape the future of clinical trials. Users participating from their desk meant we had attendees from all over the United States and the United Kingdom but also from Kenya, Poland, Argentina, Normandy region of France, France, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark and even Tajikistan.

Regardless of where OC24 attendees work and live, they were united in their desire to learn more about how to use OpenClinica solutions and services to get better data, faster. One of best-attended sessions was the keynote address by OpenClinica Co-Founder and CEO Cal Collins.

New Roads to Better Data, Faster: Dynamic Study Calendaring

If you read Cal’s blog published last week, you already know OpenClinica’s market-leading automated study calendaring functionality was a major focus of his remarks – and for good reason. To sum it up, the study calendaring for clinical trials upgrade we debuted earlier this year – especially when combined with OpenClinica eConsent, Participate, Unite, Randomize and Share:

  • Facilitates extremely high levels of user engagement,
  • Increases the timeliness of data,
  • Minimizes deviations, and
  • Creates a better experience for sponsors, sites and patients.

New Roads to Better Data, Faster: The Best User-Driven Experience

As Cal shared with OC24 attendees, OpenClinica’s Stack 19 release included three major new features and more than 800 enhancements to better meet the needs of our clinical trial customers.

Allow me to state that another way – the OpenClinica team completed over 800 individual issues and the majority of those were improvements to existing functionality requested by our customers.

Cal also stressed that OpenClinica will continue to be user-driven experience, emphasizing;

We believe we create the best user experience and the most value for our customers when we focus on four themes:

  1. Better Data, Faster:
Modern, self-service interface with reuse and rapid startup.
  2. Unlock Existing Data Sources:
Reduce time, expense, and improve quality by leveraging EHR data.
  3. Frictionless Participant Experience:
Data capture directly from study participants anytime/anywhere via their own devices.
  4. Interoperable:
Microservices API-first architecture makes it easy to integrate with OpenClinica.

New Roads to Better Data, Faster: Case Studies and User Tips & Tricks

Much of the two days we spent with users from all over the globe centered on the ways researchers can use OpenClinica solutions and services to more efficiently meet the needs of their clinical trials. For example, leaders from Oxford University presented a case study about using OpenClinica for a remote large-scale trial and complementing it with in-house software. Later that day, two of our seasoned solutions consultants shared tips and tricks for rocking forms and another presented a proven framework for building successful studies.
